Barbara Sands is the current President of the Board of Directors of GPSSD.

Barbara Sands is a native of Freiburg (Baden- Wuerttemberg) and is our German adult language teacher. Barbara has spent much of her life on both continents. Her tenure at the Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg was focused on professional translations and during that time Barbara tutored several adult scientists from Russia, Israel and the United States. Upon her return to the United States, Barbara has taught and tutored privately and publicly to both children and adults. Her style is innovative, interactive and goal oriented. Her mission for adult learners is to improve language fluency thru speaking, reading comprehension and writing. Karin Boye

Karin Boye is a founding member of GPSSD.

Karin grew up in Hamburg, Germany, and came to the U.S. in 2001. 27 years ago she received her teaching credentials via her education to become a pastor. Ever since she used a variety of resources and materials for all age groups in many classroom settings. Her last teaching assignment came through the language training and cultural service provider Global LT, so until recently Karin taught German to a group of car designers at the Mercedes Benz Research Center, Carlsbad.

In her real life Karin is an intentional interim, consulting congregations during a time of vacancy and helping to determine strategies, mission and vision. Teaching is one of her passions.

Living with her husband and four cats in Northcounty, Karin is also the pastor of the German Church in San Diego.

Christine Johnson

I grew up in the "wild Swabian south" of Germany close to the beautiful Schönbuch nature park that was just selected as the "German forest of the year 2014"! After attending university in Tübingen and Stuttgart my career in business brought me to San Diego in 1995. A temporary project assignment turned into 19 years of living in San Diego, a wonderful American husband, and the blessing of a bi-lingual daughter and son. My children and their schooling inspired me to pursue a second career in education. I am a certified Montessori teacher who would like children to "see the world in a grain of sand and a heaven in a wild flower, hold Infinity in the palm of your hand and eternity in an hour." (William Blake) It is my privilege to share the beauty and depth of the German language and culture with your children.
